A Quick Thought

Heres what is on my mind, this beautiful summer morning, power.

Power, the third temptation the devil challenged Jesus with.

Now I will begin by warning you that my idealism is totally involved in this subject (;

Last week sometime I wrote about, the more than obvious circumstance of, dividing walls that the human ego seems to need in order to exist.

I have also written about how Jesus, moved about on this earth, resisting such division.

It seems, to this simple mind, that power does not fit into Jesus way of being.  As a matter of fact we are told that God emptied Himself of all power and authority (Phil. 2); to come in Jesus ordinary skin. To live an ordinary life until about the age of 33.

In his small little book, In The Name of Jesus, Henri Houwen writes his thoughts on power:

“…Power offers an easy substitute for the hard task of love.  It seems easier to be God than to love God, easier to control people than to love people.”  (p.59)

Don’t you think that is an amazing thought?

Power is easier than being humble.

The Apostle Paul put it clearly:

31Put away from you all bitterness and wrath and anger and wrangling and slander, together with all malice, 32and be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you.(Eph. 4)

Just a quick thought for a Friday in June.
