Received from a reader.

For someone who values correct usage of terms; I certainly used violence incorrectly.  I apologize.

Thanks for the correction.  Destructive would probably been more correct in this content.

"Just to be clear here. I hope that you are not pointing to the things that people do to call attention to their causes as violent. Let's go through the list: The civil rights movement in the 60's was peaceful. Burning and looting is property damage and destruction - not violence. Violence was put upon peaceful marchers who were clubbed, beaten, attacked by dogs, and even killed by those who resisted a "renewal movement". Sexual freedom and the peace movement were peaceful - as demonstrated at Woodstock and many marches against the unjust war in Vietnam. The violence was created by our government: 4 dead and many injured at a peaceful Kent State protest and thousands of casualties in Vietnam. Doctors and patients at abortion clinics suffering the violence of being harassed, assaulted and even bombed - all because they peacefully sought to access a legal procedure (whether one agrees with its morality or not). Gay men and women suffering the violence of being bullied physically and on An Invitation to Peace"
